Want to be aware of the mark you're making on the world? Here at Thackerays we are excited to be supporting these brands who are doing their bit to support ethical and sustainable fashion.
'The Ethical Shoe Brand'
Since 2005, trainer company Veja have made it their aim to make each stage of their production of shoes as ethical as possible..and we love them for that.
'The way these goods are made is more and more important. That's what our project is about, making what we want the world to become.'
The organic cotton they use in their low top canvas trainers, respects fair trade principles and is purchased directly from farmers in Brazil (they have been supporting their families for over 14 years). The rubber soles used on their trainers, like the V10's is sourced directly from the Amazon rainforest, where Veja purhcased 195 tones of wild rubber, to preserve 120,000 hectares of the forest.
Since 2016, Ganni have been tracking their Carbon footprint as a brand, making huge commitments to lower their carbon emission by looking at everything from production, clothing manufacturers and transportation to distribution and packaging. So, not only can you see whether Ganni have covered the price of C02 emissions by the label in the garment, but they are also incorporating sustainable elements into all their new stores.
We’re proud to sell two ladieswear denim brands that are actively aware of the contribution they are making to the planet. In our sister store Circus, Levis are using innovative methods within production in design, such as using less water within their denim and developing a better cotton initiative. In Thackerays, J Brand have launched a sustainable denim collection that uses up to 30% recycled cotton within this range of denim; including the ‘JULES’ jean which will be arriving soon.
For menswear, Nudie jeans are made out of 100% organic cotton and use a non toxic dying process, plus they offer a free repair service to patch up your well loved jeans. Premium denim brand Jacob Cohen use natural dies and avoid any harsh chemicals.
So what are we doing?
As a small business, it’s hard to have a huge effect however, small but regular changes are meant to make the most difference.
Have you been offered a drink in store? All our coffee beans come from local roasters Blenders of Northampton where all their beans are traceable. We don’t use any single use plastic bottles that contain drinks, its San Pelligrino glass bottles for us!
On the business side of things, we encourage companies to send us paperless letters and invoices in order the help the environment. Our menswear and ladieswear buyers are always looking at whether brands are fair-trade and sustainable, such as Vivienne Westwood’s bio-cotton t-shirts, Nudie Jeans ‘free repairs for life’ scheme and new Ladieswear brand Stine Goya.
Our pretty paper bags that you leave the shop with are fully recyclable, whether you use it to carry your lunch in , or simply put it in the recycling bin at home.
